An Obvious and Certain Signal

My submission for GitHub's 2024 GameOff jam. This was a month long project that I initially set to with a friend who got busy early into the month. This was a pretty fun opportunity to pivot, think on my feet and replan something achievable in the time I had left. Taking inspiration from my own love of ARG code and cipher puzzles, and my childhood playing the few edutainment games I could convince my parents to get me, I eventually came to a pretty achievably scoped project. Best part is that I actually managed to achieve it! With a full day to spare no less. Maybe I could have really crunched out a few more bits of polish or bug fixing during that time, but crunch is the joy killer and I am more than proud that my first jam was completed sucessfully!

To be honest, GDScript was nice but I'm starting to understand my own preferences and skills better and given me a better respect for how much more about programming concepts I still have to learn. Though I will admit, while building the code from the ground up was satisfying and educational, it wasn't as fun. As I get more experience with GDScript in the background, I think I'll be focusing on engines like RPGmaker XP/MV or EasyFPSEditor while I'm doing jams since the speed and ease of setting up basic systems there lets me focus more on the larger design and art aspects that I find more enjoyable.

Spicy's Turtle Caper

While I was working on AGBAS, I hit a bit of creative and coding block a while ago. I needed to shake things up a bit and with some prompting from some good friends I very slap dash and haphazardly put together something easy. Something for fun with minimal planning, taking a shot at it with a game jam kind of mentality. Getting something finished and complete felt like a good way to break the block and I dare say it was successful in that respect. If it's a game that people like, that'll be a nice perk.

I did have some thoughts about making more RPGs in RPG Maker as I mention below, but finishing and packing this game has taught me enough about RPG Maker XP to likely finish AGBAS, though also enough to make me reconsider making that larger RPG project in RMG Maker XP. I think it's time to bite the Godot bullet finally.

Currently an early WIP, in AGBAS you take control of Spookie in a quest to find someting to eat. But that won't be easy when the notorious burger tyrant, Stackie begins menacing the local sandwic artist.AGBAS is being developed in RPG Maker XP, my old beloved, as an exercise in organizing larger scale game projects and preparing myself for an even larger RPG up my sleeve.

Spookie's Scramble

This is just a little practise thing I made in Scratch. It has a definitely intentional mechanic where your score reandomly jumps up by thousands... It's a feature...
